Regata dei Tre Golfi - Maserati Multi 70 and Giovanni Soldini

at the end of  a gruelling head-to-head with Mana.

Capri, 16 maggio 2022 – At 17:08 local time on Sunday 15 May, with a real time of 22 hours and 38 minutes, Giovanni Soldini and the crew of Maserati Multi70 were the first to cross the finish line of the 67th edition of the Regatta of the Three Gulfs, organised by the Circolo Remo e Vela Italia under the patronage of the Italian Sailing Federation and in collaboration with Yacht Club Italiano, Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia, IMA, ORC, UVAI, AIVE.

Sharing the great result with Soldini was the crew of six sailors made up of Guido Broggi, Oliver Herrera Perez, Thomas Joffrin, Francesco Pedol, Alberto Riva, and Gianluigi Ugolini.

"It was a really beautiful regatta and first of all I would like to congratulate the entire crew of Mana on behalf of the entire Maserati Multi70 team. Our opponents were really strong and gave us a hard time. We took turns leading the fleet for almost the entire race. The wind was light and the pitfalls were many. The situation unblocked itself in the Capri channel where, by holding higher, we gained an advantage that then allowed us to cross the finish line in the lead. A great emotion, a great satisfaction!"

With these words Giovanni Soldini comments on the result a few minutes after the arrival in Capri, which together with the islands of Procida, Ischia, Ventotene, Ponza and Li Galli was the spectacular scenario of a tactical duel with Roberto Pavoncelli's opponent Mana (skipper Paul Larsen). The two trimarans, both in MOD 70 mode, sailed side by side for almost the entire 150-mile course in the three gulfs of Naples, Gaeta and Sorrento.

The race for the multihull class started on 14 May 2022 at 18:30 local time from the Santa Lucia roadstead in front of Castel dell'Ovo. From the start line, sailing challenged a high pressure system characterised by flat calms and breeze regimes.

Precisely because of the prevalence of light winds, the multihulls' route, which initially should have extended as far as Santa Maria di Castellabate, was readjusted by the Race Committee and aligned with the traditional route, with the last buoy at Li Galli.

Maserati Multi70 participated in the TRE GOLFI for the first time.

Guido Broggi (ITA) - Born in Milan in 1971, a vintage boat enthusiast, he has thousands of miles on the ocean to his credit. From 1998 to 2005 he was team leader in the construction and sports preparation of the 60' Fila and Giovanni Soldini's trimaran Tim, taking part in all crewed regattas: North Atlantic record attempt New York-Cape Lizard in '98, Transat Jacques Vabre in doubles in '99, Quebec-St Malo in 2002 and 2004, two record attempts Marseille-Tunis in 2002. From 2005 to 2011 he was responsible for the construction of special cables in Pbo of Gottifredi & Maffioli (America's Cup and special projects). Oliver Herrera Perez (ESP) - born in Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands in 1987, he started racing at the age of 9 in an Optimist, before moving on to racing as an adult on Ims 500s, Swan 45s and Rc44s. Thomas Joffrin (FRA) - originally from the Côtes-d'Armor in Brittany, he is 22 years old and has been working in sailing since 2018. He was part of the team of the maxi trimaran Ultim Emotion 2 for two years and in June 2021 participated in the Ocean Race Europe with the Austrian team. He has four transatlantic races and over 50,000 miles in race and transfer to his credit.

Francesco Pedol (ITA) - professional skipper, expert in long-distance transfers, has numerous Atlantic crossings to his credit. From May 2021 he will be part of the Maserati Multi70 team, both as a crew member and as shore team.

Alberto Riva (ITA) - from Milan, born in 1992, a graduate in physics engineering specialising in nanotechnology, developed his passion by sailing from a very young age. He has sailed with some of the best-known Italian sailors (Giovanni Soldini, Andrea Fantini, Ambrogio Beccaria) and, as an engineer, he carries out data analysis for race teams (Azzurra TP52) and oversees research and development of new electronic devices for navigation. In 2019 he won the title of Italian Mini 650 Class Champion (Proto category). In 2020 and the following year he sailed on EdiliziAcrobatica, winning both the title of Italian Champion Mini 650 Class (Series category) and first place in the International Ranking. He concluded his mini project by crossing the finish line in second place at the Mini-Transat 2021.

Gianluigi Ugolini (ITA) - Born in 1998, he started racing from an early age and is the 2018 Nacra 17 Youth World Champion. At the 2021 Nacra 17 Worlds he also won silver together with Maria Giubilei.

He has already sailed aboard Maserati Multi70 during the transfer from Honolulu to Hong Kong and at the Caribbean Multihull Challenge in 2020.
